07月23日讯 据TMZ报道，印第安纳狂热队后卫索菲-坎宁安再次重申自己反对跨性别运动员参加女子体育赛事的立场。她表示，自己有责任保护女子更衣室中的年轻女孩，以及参加女子项目的运动员，不应与生理男性同场竞技。(“Protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men.”）

在接受媒体采访时，坎宁安表示：“我说了我想说的话。我认为这是常识，我会一直坚持自己的看法。” (“I said what I said... I think it’s kind of common sense. I think I'll always believe in that.”）她还强调，保护女孩和女性运动员的权益十分重要，因此不会动摇自己的信念。

不过，坎宁安同时表示，自己的发言并非出于仇恨，也并不反感跨性别群体。她认为，每个人都应有自己的空间，也希望通过沟通增进理解；她支持尊重所有人，但也认为生理女性的权益需要得到保护。（“I'm there to love, but I'm also there to love biological women and I think that there are rights that need to be protected, and like I said, I'm going to stand true to that.
